Care communities and bedside appointments

Between the retirement communities, assisted living, memory care and the rehabilitation facilities nearby, a large share of our Juno Beach work happens at a bedside or in a common room. Healthcare surrogate designations, living wills, durable powers of attorney, and occasionally a deed or trust amendment that a family has left until late.

We know how these buildings run. We sign in at the desk, we work around care schedules and meal times, and we do not arrive at eight in the evening and expect a resident to be alert.

Capacity, said plainly

This is the part families sometimes wish we would soften, and we will not. Florida requires us to confirm that the person signing understands what they are signing and is doing it of their own free will. If someone is heavily medicated, confused, or being prompted from across the room, we stop.

We understand how frustrating that is when a family has finally got everyone together. But a document signed by someone who could not consent is a document a court can set aside, and that discovery comes at the worst imaginable time. When we can, we suggest returning at a better hour rather than simply declining.

The rest of Juno

Away from the care settings it is ordinary residential work: condo and HOA paperwork, title transfers, affidavits, copy certifications and consent-to-travel letters for grandchildren. Juno is small enough that we are usually there within the hour.
