Every owner named on the title has to sign. People find a second name on the document the morning of a sale with a buyer standing in the driveway holding a cashier's cheque.
Read the ownership line first. If it says AND between two names, both must sign. If it says OR, usually one can. If a named owner has died, has moved out of state, or is an ex-spouse who is no longer speaking to you, that is a problem worth discovering a week early rather than an hour late.

We will meet you at the marina, the dock or the yard. It is considerably easier than moving the boat, and it is one of the few places a mobile notary is not just a convenience but the only sensible option.
The most common wasted appointment in this whole category. A seller signs the title at the kitchen table the night before to save time, and the signature is now worthless because it was not made in front of a notary.
Leave every signature line blank until we are there. If you already signed, call before you do anything else - do not try to correct it yourself, because an altered title can be rejected outright.
The original title, unsigned. Valid photo ID for every person signing. The odometer reading for a vehicle, and the hull identification number for a vessel. If there was a lien, bring the release. If a business owns it, bring evidence of authority to sign on its behalf.
We cannot advise you on sales tax, registration or what the buyer has to file afterwards. That is the tax collector's office, and they are good at answering it.
